Are you fan of cinnamon-flavouring in your food? Whether you are or not, stacking up on cinnamon as one of the mainstays in your household and using it judiciously as an everyday spice can aid your weight loss efforts, state multiple studies off late.
A study published by journal Metabolism, for instance, concluded that cinnamaldehyde, a compound that gives cinnamon its flavour, boosts your metabolism by directly impacting your fat cells causing them to start burning energy.
Cinnamon can lessen the risk of cardiovascular damage by activating the body’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory systems and slowing the fat-storing process.
“So if it can help protect against obesity, too, it may offer an approach to metabolic health that is easier for patients to adhere to,” said Jun Wu, Research Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan.
“Cinnamon has been part of our diets for thousands of years, and people generally enjoy it,” said Wu.
These are five simple fat-burning cinnamon-based recipes that can accelerate the fat-burning process in your body:
Cinnamon and honey right in the morning
Cinnamon, lemon and honey make a powerful combination that will help you lose weight and protect you against all sorts of health conditions and infections. Just boil a cinnamon stick in water, squeeze a whole lemon in it, add some honey and voila! You can also add other spices like cardamom, pepper, ginger or mint to the tea if you like.
Sprinkle it on your oats, cereal or smoothies to add flavour and health benefits
You can pick whichever combination of fruits you like, but one combination that always hits the spot is the banana oats smoothie. Blend together one banana, a teaspoon of cinnamon, a handful of oats, one cup of milk, half a cup of yogurt and one teaspoon of sugar. Have it for breakfast or after a workout. If you eat oats or cereal for breakfast, a dash of cinnamon will go a long way toward improving the taste.
Sprinkle some on your coffee
If you’re a coffee drinker, add a dash of cinnamon to your coffee to give it a great kick. If you’re adding cinnamon, you can cut down on the amount of sugar you add to your coffee, making it even more weight-friendly.
Add some to your juices
If you’re fond of fruit and vegetable juices, sprinkle some cinnamon on them to boost their flavour and nutritional value. Cinnamon goes especially well with apple juice, carrot juice, and even orange juice.
Add it to the flavouring in your meals
A lot of Indian recipes call for cinnamon and it is an integral part of the garam masala mixture. Now, you can start adding a piece of cinnamon to dishes that don’t traditionally require it as well. The best part is that this versatile spice goes equally well with sweet, savoury and spicy dishes!
Sip cinnamon water through the day
For the true lover of taste and simplicity have cinnamon water all day. Boil cinnamon sticks in water or sprinkle cinnamon powder on water and sip on it during the day, between meals especially. You can even drink some before you go to bed at night.
