6 Simple Rules For Easy Weight Loss

Liz Josefsberg’s “Target 100” weight-loss plan goes beyond the standard diet and exercise: She also urges her readers to think about stress, sleep and water consumption.

“Each one of them is so reliant on the others,” she tells The Post. “If you’re hydrated, you’re not as hungry, so you eat less and feel better. You move more, you get more exercise, you’re less stressed — it all works together.”

While it may sound complicated to be thinking about so many elements, Josefsberg keeps it simple by tying each of her six rules to the number 100. Have a look.

Target: 100 grams or less of carbohydrates a day

There’s no counting calories. Instead, dieters just have to limit their carb consumption to a doable 100 grams a day. (By comparison, the Atkins diet allows just 50.) “[It’s] a gentle nudge toward proteins and healthy fats, which are more satisfying, keep you full longer and curb your cravings,” Josefsberg says.

Target: 100 ounces of water daily

“If there was one thing for anybody to take from [the plan], it’s to start drinking water,” Josefsberg says. “Immediately people have increased energy, better mood, better skin, hair and nails, clarity of thought and less [hunger].”

Target: 100 minutes of exercise weekly

Although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting 150 minutes of exercise a week, Josefsberg says 100 minutes is a more attainable but still effective way to get your heart rate up and burn calories. “Exercise is all about discomfort, planning, scheduling, getting out the door, getting into a workout,” says Josefsberg, who defines exercise as a high-intensity workout you actively schedule.

Target: 100 minutes of movement per week

Separate from exercise, Josefsberg says it’s also important to get in plenty of passive movement, such as walking to the subway or taking the stairs. “It affects your heart rate, blood flow and metabolism,” she says. “When you stay seated after meals, your digestion system is crunched and can’t function correctly.”

Target: 100 minutes of extra sleep per week

Improving your Z’s is crucial to healthy eating, as sleep deprivation affects the hormones that make you hungry. “[When you don’t get enough sleep], you might wake up with the best intentions, but you can’t even get to noon without falling prey to the high-fat, high-sugar food your body is driving you to eat,” Josefsberg says.

Target: 100 minutes of stress relief per week

“A lot of people don’t understand that stress makes you hungrier,” says Josefsberg, who says activities such as meditation, relaxing baths and catching up with close friends are crucial to weight loss. “If you can’t figure out how to stop the stress response, you’re just going to keep eating.” And studies show that when stress hits, the body releases a hormone called cortisol, which signals fat retention.

New Year Weight Loss Tips: Lose Belly Fat In 1 Week With These Three Superfoods

With the ongoing festive season where most people tend to do more snacking and grazing, chances are you may end up packing on a few more pounds, especially around the belly, than expected. Yet, if you are trying to shed those extra kilos after the holidays or a New Year party as a resolution, you would want to try these slimming superfoods that will promote weight loss and help burn belly fat quickly. Eating these metabolism-boosting superfoods can help you to detox after overindulging during the festive period and do the trick to hit your ideal weight.

Perhaps, a nutritionist has answered debate over which ‘superfood’ is best, analysing the benefits of green tea, turmeric and cocoa just in time for New Year’s resolutions to come into effect. The truth is that all three foods have different health benefits – green tea is a natural antioxidant, turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, and cocoa is known for its cardiovascular benefits.

However, according to nutritionist Georgios Tzenichristos, the overall winner was green tea.

Green tea

Green tea contains 7 percent of the active molecule EGCG, while turmeric only contains 2 percent of the molecule curcumin and cocoa contains 0.5 percent flavanols. Green tea’s polyphenols help to speed the metabolism and boost fat-burning during exercising. In fact, green tea has been found to not only assists in weight loss but reduces visceral fat by as much as 58%.

“If I had to choose one of those famous super ingredients, that would be the humble green tea. A cup is easy to prepare, costs next to nothing and provides you with a whopping 7 percent active molecules (EGCG), the most of any other drink or food,” Tzenichristos said.

Cocoa

According to research from Harvard Medical Schools, cocoa can ward off diseases and help to cut cholesterol. Cocoa that is high in flavanols, or plant chemicals, is good for the heart and brain.

It’s also believed that consuming the sweet treat aids serotonin production in the brain. This feel-good chemical helps to regulate the mood and suppress your appetite.

To reap the benefits, it’s best to consume dark chocolate that contains a high percentage of cocoa.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains curcumin – a powerful antioxidant – and has been one of the top health trends of 2017. In fact, Starbucks even added the ingredient into one of their menu items.

Curcumin in the spice helps to rejuvenate the liver and eliminate toxins. There are several ways to work turmeric into your everyday diet. You can take it in capsules, sprinkle it onto your food for flavor or add it to hot drinks.

According to Mr Tzenichristos, green tea is easy to prepare, while turmeric can be difficult and stains teeth, cocoa often needs large amounts of milk and sugar, or a protein shake to mask the unpalatable taste.

The bottom line is that these superfoods are loaded with flavor, nutrients, and, best of all, fat-burning potential. Losing belly fat can seem like a daunting task, but with the right habits and tricks, you can drop the pounds and keep them off.
