Dr. Seema Khanna, Consultant Nutritionist says people with AB+ and AB- blood group find it most difficult to lose weight. This happens because people with these two blood groups can’t alter their eating habits easily.
People who can easily alter their eating habits and thus manage to lose weight easily are people with O+ and B+ blood group. People with B+ blood group have a higher Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is why they never gain too much weight, adds Dr. Seema.
Speaking about the A blood type, Dr. Seema says, “For them their weight gain or weight loss depends on their genetics”.
What can one do about it?
A diet called the blood type diet has been popular for almost two decades now and promises to help you lose weight in a healthy manner. The diet was created by naturopath Peter J. D’Adamo.
Peter says the foods that we eat react with our blood and eating a diet designed especially for your blood type can help digest it quickly. Following the blood group diet will help you lose more weight, help prevent diseases and have more energy, claims Peter.
He even claims that by eating according to the blood group, people can be healthier, live longer and achieve their ideal weight. He says one’s choices of condiments, spices and even exercise should depend on one’s blood group. Here is a brief diet plan for every blood group:
Type O blood
People with O blood group should eat high-protein foods, lots of veggies and fish but should eat limited beans, legumes and grains. These people should eat seafood, red meat, broccoli, spinach and olive oil to lose weight. They should avoid eating dairy, corn and wheat.
Type A blood
People with A blood group should choose vegetables, fruits, tofu, turkey, whole grains and seafood and avoid meat. To lose weight, you should eat more pineapple, olive oil, seafood, vegetables and soy. You should also avoid eating dairy, corn, kidney beans and wheat.
Type B blood
B blood group people should opt for a diverse diet that includes meat, fruit, seafood, dairy and grains. To lose weight you should eat more green veggies, liver, eggs and licorice and avoid eating corn, chicken, wheat and peanuts.
Type AB blood
People with AB blood group should eat dairy, lamb, tofu, fish, fruits, vegetables and grains. For losing weight you should eat more tofu, seafood, green vegetables and kelp. Chicken, corn, kidney beans and buckwheat should be avoided.
